Coca-Cola Advert

At first the Coca-Cola advert starts with dramatic music which gives you a feeling of war – this creates tension and excitement for the audience. The first shot is a long shot size showing two men walking up and down in different directions with a barrier in between them, this shows competition and protection between two countries. The landscape looks like it is placed in a dessert where it is very hot, the view also looks like it is quiet dull, dusty and old-fashioned. You can tell because the huts look worned out and there are no buildings surrounding them. Their clothing clearly show that they are officers; the colours show that they are both different and the quality of their clothes seems like they have not washed for a while. In the second shot the main focus is the man wearing red whilst everything else is out of focus, you can also see his facial expression clearly which shows seriousness, his body language shows how much he is committed to his job even though he is walking up and down in a hot desert. In the third shot there is a close-up in the man wearing blue and you can see his facial expression which shows that he is tired by the sweat dripping down his face, his facial expressions also shows seriousness to show who is best or the boss. His eye then meets the other man’s eye which happens every time they walk past each other, this shows the aggression between the two officers. As they both reach to the middle of the barrier they both look down seeing a piece of paper floating from one side to the other side and softly landing there. In the eighth shot you could quickly see the anger in the man’s face and how he would not allow their rubbish in their side - this shows how little things were not permitted at the time. Suddenly he stabs the piece of paper and throws it back to the other side and stretches his coat, this shows attitude as he did not say anything and instead he gave him dirty looks. It then comes to a long shot view and shows the two men walking up and down again, swiftly the music fades away and all you could here is a bottle opened up which sounded refreshing, the man dressed in blue then looks up and from his serious face it turned into a suspicious facial expressions, this showed that the man new exactly what the noise meant so he turned around and gave the other man from the other side an innocent look as if he had done nothing bad to him. After the man dressed in blue finishes drinking the Coca-Cola bottle he smiled and looked up at the other man almost feeling sorry for him; so he decides to give him one too. The drink was placed in a box filled with ice which looked refreshing, this could create a craving for the audiences to go outside and buy a nice, fresh, cold Coca-Cola. Unfortunately he didn’t give the drink to him straight away as they knew they couldn’t cross the line no matter what happens so they kept hesitating the whole time, they kept looking side to side as if there was someone watching them from far away but he still didn’t hand the drink. He then puts the drink down on the floor and pulls out his sword which made the other man on the other side jump and almost about to grab his sword as well, he then draws a semicircle around it connecting the straight line to it which the other man rubs off. As the man bends down to reach the drink triumphal music comes on showing that the drink might have created friendship between them two. As they both finished drinking with a breath of sigh, they smiled at the bottle and looked at each other which created the smile to fade away as they realised they were doing the wrong thing. Then they both straightened up and carried on walking up and down again as the music lowers its pitch– this shows that what happened before was just little misunderstanding and that they should go back to what it was in the first place. As the man wearing blue walks back he draws the straight line back again with his sword displaying that they are still enemies. Then the last shot comes which turns into a blank white background until the Coca-Cola bottle spins around into the middle of the screen as the famous slogan fizzes up with bubbles - ‘Open Happiness.’ This is effective as it leaves the target audience talking about the advertisement. Overall the drink did actually ‘Open Happiness’ between the two officers after a long day from the heat and conflicts.

    Ebi - use of paragraphs would improve the readability. Maybe a screenshot or two of the advert as a reference.
